Inspiring Our Youth Through Dance
Syracuse City Ballet is dedicated to giving all people the opportunity to appreciate the beauty and power of ballet through various outreach programs. Our programs extend to students of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds, with levels of introduction to dance appropriate for each group. Focusing on discipline, teamwork, creativity, and confidence; SCB works to instill the determination and commitment it takes to achieve goals. We strongly believe the power that dance brings to our community as they become our artists and audiences of tomorrow.
Help support making these opportunities possible for all students. Donate to our Outreach Programs today.
Students will have the opportunity to be completely immersed into the current ballet production that the company is gearing up to perform. Our Ballet Mistress and a few selected Corps de Ballet members will visit your school and transform the space of your choice into a theater. Students will be introduced to many exciting aspects of a ballet performance, including: basic dance technique, actual choreography directly from the show, the importance of the musical score, the plot, the characters, and production elements like sets, props, and costumes.
This program introduces young children (3-5 years old) to the joy of movement with basic ballet and dance technique. Our instructors will visit your school or childcare facility at regular intervals (weekly, monthly) to provide 30-minute sessions of fun movement and dance instruction. These sessions can be worked into the school day or be provided as after-school programming.
This program is currently in conjunction with the YMCA and focuses on bringing ballet and dance to under-privileged populations in the Central New York area. SCB believes that everyone benefits from being able to have access to the arts and we are working to spread the love of dance throughout our region.
In this program we work with Scout Troops in the Central New York area to provide programming that facilitates achieving goals toward badges, patches, and journeys. We offer a one hour immersive, in-studio workshop that corresponds with one of our productions or we can tailor a workshop toward your troop’s goals.
Our current in-school performance offering is titled: Goldilocks Meets Little Red. This fun, fast paced adventure answers the question of what would happen if all our favorite fairy tale characters ran into each other in the woods? Your group can find out in this mini-ballet, complete with The Three Bears, The Big Bad Wolf, and even a visit from The Three Little Pigs! This performance piece pairs recognizable fairy tales with important life lessons, like teamwork, stranger awareness, or theatre etiquette. With an approximate 30-minute run time, this is the perfect opportunity to introduce children to the world of ballet.
